1. General Information

The WarAtlas has been developped to easily find any location in World of Warcraft very fast.
It has a detailed image map and a realtime filtering engine that allows for a fast search for any location in the huge world.

(following not available at the moment)

Once you have found your location you can check out the material resources in that area as wel as monsters and quests with some information about them.

Some locations in the world like huge cities and dungeons/caves will have a seperate map with more detailed indications.

The program was written with flash actionscript and can be put online on a website. But we provide it in a zipfile and let users download it because it is 1.8 mb (mostly map image data). It is also easier to view the map in the application window instead of a browser. We made it quite small and resizable so you can put in next to the game window when playing in windowed mode. This slows down your game performance, but it is easy when looking for stuff.

2. Map Navigation

The map has a point and click navigation.
Point the mouse to where you want to go on the map and click once to move the map to that location. a dubbleclick will zoom the map further into that location. Watch the zoom bar on the left of the window to see how far you are currently zoomed in, you can also use that bar to zoom in/out if you drag the sliderheader. Another way to zoom is to simply use the mousewheel , but this is not yet supported for macintosh by flash.

Another cool thing you can do instead of pointing and clicking all the time :) Is to hold down the left mouse , that will make the map 'follow' the mouse until you release the left mouse button.

3. User Interface

If WarAtlas is started you will get the following screen.

screen1

All interface items are hidden by default , you can open them by clicking on the title/icon of that menu.

the zoom bar on the left can be used to check how far the map is currently zoomed in. You can drag the sliderheader to zoom in/out (alternative mousewheel). The minimap in the top left corner resets the map to its default position and scale.

The icon on the top right opens the 'Search Location' window, wich looks like this :

searchBoxThis is where you search for a location if you don't know where it is on the map.

You can click on any item in the list and the atlas will zoom into that location. the searchbox above the list can be used to filter locations by keywords instantly. Each time a key is pressed the list will get smaller and the location you are looking for will be easier to select from the remaining items.

"Include in searchlist" in the OptionsBox lets you include/exclude locations from the search list. For example , if you are playing the game and you are in Kalimdor , you might want to 'uncheck' Eastern Kingdoms so the locations in Eastern Kingdoms won't be displayed in the list.

On the bottom left there are a few buttons that allow you to hide/unhide things on the map.
If you click the Display button, something like this will slide out from the bottom :

Click on the red cross to close this menu.
Checkboxes in this menu are pretty self explanatory, you can toggle the visibility of regions and location labels on the map as well as alliance and horde flightpaths.

Resources menu looks pretty much the same , click on the checkboxes to see the resources on the map. Resources can be mouse-overed to see more information on it.

The application also saves your preferences and checkbox states , for example if you set the flightpaths to visible and you close to program, they will still be visible next time you start it up.

Here is another screen shot of the application at a default window size with all menus expanded. It's zoomed into Dun Morogh where some resource items have been placed as a test.
